Extrusion (undefined)

Extrusion of plastics materials is a widely used method of forming plastics materials. The plastic raw material is melted and traversed along a heated barrel by the action of a screw rotating within the barrel and forced, under pressure, out of a shaped exit die-hole and cooled. It is a continuous process and is thus able to manufacture long lengths of a product. This is ideal for such applications as pipes, sheet, film and fibre. However often the continuous extrusion is cut into application lengths. Typical Materials Used: HDPE, PVC, PP, PE. Typical End Products Produced: Gas & Water pressure pipe, Drainage Tubing & Guttering, Cable Sheathing, Window & Door Seals & Frames, Light Diffusers, Electrical Conduit and Cable Protector, Facia & Soffit Sections, Edge Trim, Garden Decking, Medical Tubes & Catheters. Generally high viscosity grades are used for extrusion applications to enable the product to maintain shape after exiting the extruder & die.
