The recycling of post-consumer (PCR) and post-industrial (PIR) waste is a major challenge for the plastics industry. The presence of a wide variety of incompatible polymers in waste streams inevitably leads to phase separation and poor mechanical properties. Improved procedures for separating waste streams can lead to more effective recycling, but such procedures are time-consuming and rarely fully effective.
