Recycled Materials in Injection Moulding: Technical Aspects to Consider

Damiano Piacentini

Founder and Injection Moulding Expert

Plastinnova

Damiano Piacentini is the founder of Plastinnova and an expert in the injection moulding of thermoplastic polymers. For about twenty-five years he has been supporting companies in the sector in the development of technical skills, in the optimisation of processes and in the resolution of production problems, with an approach that integrates scientific method and direct experience in the department.

Damiano's presentation addressed the issue of the use of recycled materials in injection moulding, with a practical and production-oriented approach. The focus was to make people understand the differences between virgin and recycled materials, analysing the technical reasons that lead to variations in the mechanical, aesthetic and process properties of post-consumer polymers.

The main critical issues that companies encounter when introducing recycled material were illustrated: greater variability, possible performance declines, specific needs on the control of moulding parameters and a different impact on equipment and maintenance. The aim was to provide a clear and realistic view: the use of recycled materials requires expertise, reliable technical information from material suppliers and a structured method. Only with conscious technical management is it possible to achieve consistent results and transform sustainability into concrete value for production.
