The Ultrapolymers Quality Team, with expertise in REACH and RoHS compliance, healthcare regulations such as the MDR 2017/745, and sustainability certifications including EcoVadis, ISCC, and RecyClass, are focussed on ensuring the highest standards for product safety and environmental responsibility. Backed by Ravago’s extensive network of REACH experts, this article highlights their commitment to navigating complex regulatory landscapes and advancing sustainability initiatives.
Why should I know about Microplastics REACH?
The European Union has introduced a significant update under REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) to tackle the environmental impact of microplastics. This regulation, known as Commission Regulation (EU) 2023/2055, restricts the use of intentionally added synthetic polymer microparticles (commonly called microplastics) in products.
What does this mean?
From 17 October 2025, suppliers of microplastics must include additional labelling to inform users about safe handling and disposal. This requirement applies to any product containing synthetic polymer microparticles that are:
- ≤ 5 mm in size
- Insoluble and non-biodegradable
The goal is to reduce microplastic release into the environment and improve transparency across the supply chain.
How can the labelling be provided?
The regulation allows flexibility in how this information is delivered. Suppliers can:
- Print the information directly on the product label
- Include it in the Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
- Provide a separate leaflet with the required details
This ensures that customers receive clear guidance on safe use and disposal, regardless of the format.
How is Ultrapolymers managing compliance?
At Ultrapolymers, we are committed to full compliance and clear communication. Our approach includes:
- Updating SDS and product documentation to include the required labelling information
- Providing additional guidance materials where necessary
- Working closely with suppliers and customers to ensure a smooth transition
We are also enhancing our digital resources so that customers can easily access the latest compliance information.
How are we helping our customers?
We’re currently updating the documentation on Ultrapolymers.com to reflect the latest REACH microplastics requirements.
